Relationships are the theme of Two Halves: a new play by Scotland-based theatre company Muddrag Productions which is currently at theSpaceUK as part of the Edinburgh Fringe. This fictional narrative centres on ageing Welsh Rugby player Sean and world-famous US soccer star Sophie, who despite being at different stages in their lives, start a relationship. Whilst I wasn’t scheduled to formally review this play, it was one of the shows that I was able to have media access to as part of my festival coverage and I wanted to share a little bit more about the material for anyone considering going.
About the play
Two Halves is a collaboration between actors Sam Rowlands and Zoë Lerman and it follows a couple across distinct moments in their relationship, ranging from their first meeting up to challenges they face in the future. Set in the world of elite sport, you watch the pair navigate the pressure to play well, social media backlash and personal demons, which creates a melting pot of emotions. It is an interesting concept, especially as Sean is nearing the end of his career and Sophie is the star of the moment, and the contrasts between their situations generates some explosive dialogue. Sam Rowlands has written the 50-minute two-hander and Zoë Lerman directs.

It’s always exciting to see new writing at the Fringe and if you’re interested in seeing this dramatic play by Sam Rowlands and Zoë Lerman, you can catch Two Halves at Studio at theSpaceTriplex until 22nd August. Performances start daily at 18:05, with tickets available via the festival’s website.
