Family Christmas Traditions

In my family, we have lots of Christmas traditions and it’s part of why Christmas is so important to me. We stay at home on Christmas Day every year and have a real homey day, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. For today’s blog post, I thought I’d talk about our family Christmas traditions.

Mum’s Advent Calendar

Mum makes my sister and I our own DIY advent calendars every Christmas. She wraps chocolates up in Disney paper and each day we get an entirely different treat. It’s always exciting on the 1st December, when I get to start opening them!

Christmas Eve Party

Every other year, we host a Christmas party for our neighbours and friends in the local area. My parents always cook really yummy food for the occasion; their sausage rolls are my favourite!

A present on Christmas Eve

For as long as I can remember, we’ve always opened one present each at about 10pm on Christmas Eve. A couple of years ago, we had a family Secret Santa and we opened these gifts on Christmas Eve. The challenge was to find the best present you could for £5. I had a ‘spend £15 and receive £10 off’ voucher, so my Mum got a really nice gift for the money!

Christmas movie nights

We always watch Love Actually and The Holiday in the week before Christmas. They’re our favourite chick flicks and as they’re set at Christmas time, it’s always lovely to watch them in December.
What are your family Christmas traditions?

I love that your mum made you your own advent calendar full of surprises. My mum would buy us a little gift and hide it on the Christmas tree for us to find on Christmas Eve. =^-^=

These are lovely ideas, Kat. I love Christmas movie nights and It’s a Wonderful Life is one of my favorites. I came up with my own list of Christmas activities too, which are perfect for our dear grandparents too. My grandmother’s favorite is singing Christmas carols. We also play games too like Guess How Many or Christmas Trivia. Here’s my list of safe activities for seniors during the holidays: http://www.altcp.org/gift-ideas-safe-activities-seniors/. They’re simple, inexpensive and the whole family will surely enjoy.
