A Sunday morning in Paris

Paris. One of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Home to the Eiffel Tower, the Notre Dame and Montmartre. Last Sunday, I went to Paris for the morning on the way back from Disneyland and ever since my short visit, I’ve been desperate to plan a trip back.

We left Marne La Vallée bright and early, so that we’d make it to Paris for 9am. It was so quiet at that time, with very few people around – I could hardly believe this was Paris. First stop was the Notre Dame. Now I’ve been to Paris a couple of times for day trips, but I’d never been to the Notre Dame before. As it was Sunday morning, there was a service going on, but luckily they still let tourists wander around. You didn’t have to pay entry either, which surprised me for such a famous attraction.

The cathedral was beautiful; it had such high ceilings and spectacular stain glass windows. As I walked around, I was in awe at the architecture.

After our Cathedral visit, Dad took me to see the Pompidou Centre: a unique and arty building. It’s a cultural centre, which is home to the National Museum of Modern Art. It’s got pipes on the outside, which makes it really stand out amongst the Parisian architecture. If we’d had more time, I would have definitely gone inside.
Next, we walked back to meet the rest of my family at café ‘Le Parvis’. On the way we saw the City Hall, which looked amazing against the blue sky.

As the café name was written in swirly font, I was convinced that the café was called ‘Le Paris’. Over 13 hours at Disney the day before had made me very sleepy, so I had a much-needed cup of coffee.

The last sight on our whistle-stop tour of Paris was Montmartre. We drove over there, conveniently passing the Moulin Rouge on the way so I could get a quick photo. This one was actually taken out of the car window as we stopped at traffic lights nearby.

Montmartre is a hill in Paris, that is known for it’s art scene and the Sacré-Cœur. We parked the car at the bottom of it, passing an adorable little fruit and veg stall on the walk up the hill. It was the perfect opportunity for a colourful, flatlay photo!

Full of paintings, pretty cafés and good french food, Montmartre is the definition of Paris for me. I could imagine living in Paris and going for breakfast there at weekends, soaking up the brilliant city atmosphere.

We walked through the square area to the Sacré-Cœur church and we got some incredible views of both the building and the city here. The steps of the Sacré-Cœur were filled with tourists like ourselves, looking out over Paris.

After posing for a couple of photos outside the Sacré-Cœur and grabbing some fresh sandwiches from one of the nearby patisseries, we got back into the car to go home. We passed the Eiffel Tower on the way out of the city, so I was able to get a picture of that too.

We had a lovely morning in Paris and I can’t wait to go back again soon.

Have you ever been to Paris?
