The Red Lipstick Look

“Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.”
Gywneth Paltrow

A holy grail lip product for me, will always be red lipstick. 9am lecture? I’m wearing it. Exam day? Still wearing it. There’s rarely a day where I don’t wear it, and my friends are constantly saying to me, “red lipstick is you”.

Whenever I go lipstick shopping, I always opt for the bold colours; I like the deep reds, pinks and purples. I think there’s something about bold lipstick that just gives me confidence – it’s my staple beauty product. For today’s post, I’m going to show you how I make red lipstick an accessory to a simple evening look.

If I’m going out for the evening, I usually wear a little black dress, and to quote Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld: “One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress”. It’s my go-to outfit of choice, and it gives you so much freedom with accessories. But I’m never satisfied just wearing black; I like to give my little black dress a pop of colour, and I achieve this through my choice of handbag, jewellery, shoes or lipstick. Red is the colour I always go for naturally, and I accessorise the little black dress with my Rimmel Kate Moss ‘111 Kiss of Life’ lipstick and my bargain red Primark clutch (it was £3 when I bought it in November 2014!).

Two affordable accessory options: as a student, I am always on the look out for budget buys, so when I found this gorgeous lip colour and clutch a while after, I had to get them. Primark really has some great buys, and who doesn’t love the price tag of drugstore make-up?

These red touches just brighten the look for me and add a simple twist to the classic little black dress. It’s an opportunity to feel bold in your outfit choice, without straying away from the flattering and classic black.

For me, this look is an opportunity to showcase my favourite red lipstick, but you can always swap it for any other bright colour. If there’s anything I want you to take from reading this post, it’s just have the confidence to accessorise with bold colours. It gives your little black dress a whole new look!

Thank you for reading my blog today.
