Last weekend, I went to Manchester to see friends from my 2015 TrekAmerica tour. I live in Hertfordshire, so it was a long train journey up North, but I made it to Manchester Piccadilly in about 4 hours.
As soon as I arrived, I met my friend Kirsty at our hotel: the Doubletree by Hilton. We checked in straightaway, dropped our bags off and then headed out into the city centre. We picked our friend Louise up from her hotel on the way and then headed to the Arndale centre for a spot of shopping.
After a quick lunch at the Arndale food court, we wandered out of the centre so that we could explore some of the city’s tourist attractions. TripAdvisor suggested the John Rylands Library and the Museum of Science and Industry so we followed a map to those sights.
The library felt very Hogwarts-esque, especially the famous reading room. It’s free to visit and definitely worth a visit, if you’re ever in Manchester city centre.
The Museum of Science and Industry was really interesting too: another free attraction in the city. The exhibition showcasing some historic planes and cars was great.
We went to see the new James Franco movie ‘Why Him?’ and had dinner at TGI Fridays in the evening. It was lovely getting to spend the day with the girls; the last time I saw them was in New Orleans.
On the Sunday, Kirsty and I had a relaxing morning at the hotel, before catching our transport home.
I'm glad you enjoyed Manchester! I live there and John Rylands is one of my favourote places to go to on a lazy Sunday 🙂
