Side dishes at Pulitzer
I had mixed vegetables, spiced potato wedges and bread at Pulitzer: a lovely restaurant on the edge of the Old Town. This was my favourite meal of the trip, because it gave me a chance to try a few different types of Slovakian side dishes. My reaction to the vegetables was “broccoli has never tasted this good” and I’ve probably never been so excited about carrots and cauliflower before.
Pasta in the Old Town
Spaghetti Bolognese was on most of the local restaurant menus, so I had that for dinner on one of the evenings. It was delicious and the perfect meal for me, when Stuart tried the local schnitzel. Mince is one of the types of meat that I don’t struggle with, so it was really handy that there was Spaghetti Bolognese available to order.

Croissant sandwiches near Bratislava Castle
After visiting Bratislava Castle, we had lunch at Moods Bakery and Coffee. Instead of regular sandwiches, the café sold croissants with fillings and they were very tasty. Moods Bakery has a great view of the UFO bridge and also free wi-fi, so it’s a fabulous place to stop for lunch if you fancy some relaxation time.
Chocolate Orange cake
Last but not least is dessert! We visited Pasteleria in the Old Town for cake on our final day and the Chocolate Orange cake was wonderful. Pasteleria was such a lovely little tea shop, that was hidden away in a city centre courtyard. We visited there twice during our weekend away and it’s somewhere that you should definitely visit for afternoon tea, if you’re heading to Bratislava anytime soon.
Mmm that chocolate cake looks like its worth travelling to Bratislava for all on its own! Glad you found some good places to eat 😀
